Poster for new CUIC

We are thrilled to partner with Cornell’s Mann Library to share specimens from the Cornell University Insect Collection collected by Vladimir Nabokov! The exhibit will open on Thursday, March 14th and will be open through July.  Learn more about the exhibit here and join us for the opening reception:

Although most people know Nabokov from his literary works few realize he was an avid butterfly collector and careful scientist.  Nabokov described new species of butterflies and posited an elaborate migratory hypothesis about how the Blues spread across the globe.  This exhibit will showcase Nabokov’s scientific contributions and feature some of the butterflies he collected and deposited in the CUIC while a professor of Russian Literature at Cornell University.

Please join us for an opening Keynote address by Prof. Naomi Pierce of Harvard University as she shares her research testing Nabokov’s biogeographic hypotheses (spoiler alert – Nabokov got it right!) from 4-5pm in Mann Library on Thursday, March 14th:

Since the exhibit will be open through July we hope if you make it to campus for a visit or alumni week you stop by Mann Library and see the exhibit on the second floor!
